About Christie.
Christie’s interest in Pilates began in 1994, when she read about the method in a US exercise magazine. In doing some research, she found only one dedicated Pilates Studio in Melbourne – DMA in Prahran (now located in South Yarra). Her first session was life-changing – walking out of the studio, not only did she feel two inches taller, but she also felt so energetic, she could have gone for a very long bike ride!
In 1998 Christie moved to a small town in country Victoria, where at the time there were no Pilates studios - this soon changed, and Christie started as a participant with Brady's Lifestyle Management not long after the boutique gym and studio opened. It was here that she was able to develop her skills in the technique, and she eventually completed her Level 1 Mat Instructor Accreditation with Allan Menezes in 2002.
Christie combined her full time office management job with casual mat class instruction for a few years, under the guidance of Murray Brady, who himself was a perfect physiological example of a magnificent Pilates body in the flesh. Christie's 'extreme' stretches were honed during her time with Murray, as he used to incorporate them within his classes.
Christie and her husband relocated from Victoria to Hobart in March 2006, where she soon found herself inexplicably drawn to Club Salamanca's Pilates Studio (where she met Gin and Mary), and not long after moving started teaching group reformer classes at the lovely premises. She completed further training in 2007 with Helen Tardent of Pilates Moves and in 2008 once again with Allan Menezes of the Pilates Institute of Australasia.
Christie's other life.
An ardent digital / www ambassador, Christie spends most of her spare time on the computer, whether it be researching new media and emerging trends or building websites for clients, selling stuff on eBay or buying stuff from Amazon. Luckily Christie's Pilates passion balances out the negative impact of sitting at a computer desk for many hours of the day! Christie is currently studying her Diploma in Business (Marketing) which probably won't lead to any Antarctic Expeditions, however you never know what the future holds... ![]()
The future.
Christie has in her sights Certificate IV in Pilates through Pilates ITC in Sydney, as well as a Stretch Therapists certification through Kit Laughlin in Melbourne. The ultimate goal for Christie is to train with Rael Isacowitz of Body Arts and Science International in California.
